Brand New Nikon D5100 Digital SLR Camera First Glance
It appears like the general public are looking to buy digital SLR cameras these days due to the fact the image quality of the DSLR is so much better. It used to be at least $1000 to buy an entry-level DSLR, but now you can get a high quality camera from Canon, Sony or Nikon for example for a little less than $1000 easily. The Nikon D5100 is targeted at the lower-mid end of the spectrum, and looks like it's going to be exceedingly popular.
The D5100 has so many excellent features built into it, it's difficult to believe it's less than $1000 complete with an 18-55mm lens. Some of the features include a 16.2MP CMOS sensor, a 3" rotating viewscreen, built-in HDR and HD video with continuing auto-focusing!
The D5100 works with all Nikon Nikkor lenses, but will autofocus only with AF-S and AF-I lenses as it doesn't contain an autofocus motor inside the body. This shouldn't ever pose a challenge, just make absolutely sure that you purchase this kind of lens when upgrading.
The HD movie capacity includes continuous auto-focus, which is really incredible when you think about it. This is a DSLR camera, and it can be employed as a video recorder as well... Very cool. Yes quite a few DSLRs can record video, and even HD; but can those DSLRs auto-focus when shooting video or have you got to focus by hand? Make sure you check before you buy!
HDR is incredible, but I've been having a hard time making it work with my point and shoot camera. In-camera HDR does all of the work for you! 2 bracketed exposures are returned to back, and then the camera mixes them into a single HDR image that shows enhanced details from shade and highlights. These shots often look extraordinary and actually give a 'WOW!' factor to your photos.
Many folks are resolution crazy.... Just because one camera has a higher megapixel ( MP ) count doesn't imply it's better. Please keep that in mind when looking for a new DSLR.
Image resolution means the maximum size possible; for this camera it's 16.2 MP ( million pixels, or thousands of pixels ) or 4928 x 3264. That's a HUGE image! If you post an image online, sometimes it's only about 400 x three hundred ; and the dimensions of your entire desktop on your P. C is maybe about 1024 x 768. So what this implies is that the photographs taken by this camera at max resolution are about 4 times larger than you can see at a hundred percent on your computer screen!
Please note that a larger image doesn't automatically mean a better image. If you have a crummy camera with a crummy lens it takes giant photos it doesn't mean they're good.
Image-quality on the Nikon D5100 happily is fantastic. Nikon works at keeping consumer level camera quality high so that they can vie with Canon and Sony in the ever expanding marketplace. No-one wants to put out a low quality $900 camera, that's for sure.
Is the Nikon D5100 worth purchasing? Yes, it is! The camera has such a great list of attribute, quality lenses, and is simple to just pick up and use. Nowadays I find myself commending Nikon DSLRs over Canon and Sony, and I see no reason to not give the D5100 a huge thumbs up as well . If you're ever short of Nikon digital camera repair or perhaps camera repair shop then a fast Google search or two and you should find exactly what you need.
